Australia's Freddie Lane won the 200 metre Freestyle in the muddy waters and currents of the Seine River, at Asnieres. He followed that by winning the obstacle event in which competitors were required to clamber across rowing boats and swim under punts. This event was taken off the Olympic program in following years.
